It started with a prompt
This is the first UX project I ever created. I selected a prompt from those offered to me in my online course. It was as simple as that. But it was also inspired by the delivery apps I ordered food from when I was in college. The amount of times my order would be refunded because an item I ordered was out of stock but still listed on the app or my delivery took twice as long as originally stated. What drew me to this prompt out of all the ones offered was how I could make a hypothetical impact for a problem that not only I was having, but many other students as well.
People are frustrated with delayed food deliveries and canceled orders due to unavailable items.
Goal:
Create an app for a bakery for users to order pickup or delivery that is accurate and reliable.
The Process
Research
Using my own experiences with food delivery apps and the competitive audits I conducted, I came up with some ideas that could provide a better user experience.
One important factor for food delivery apps is the delivery time and the availablity of foods. A lot of apps don’t tell you if something you ordered is unavailable until after you place the order (leading to it being canceled) or it will give you a blanket delivery time without factoring the current traffic.
Design
Lo-Fi Wireframes Before and After
Since this was my first project I ever made, I went back and re-made it with my new expereince and more user feedback. The top is my first version and the bottom is my second version.

Challenges:
🤌🏽 Experience
This being my first project I completed, it was interesting creating it while learning how to use the programs and understand what steps to take to bring my ideas to life.
🤔 Criticism
Accepting that a design or an idea that I liked wasn’t user friendly or good for accessibility was something I knew I would need to get used to. At first, I didn’t want to part with something that was my idea, but understanding and accepting that it doesn’t work in a productive way for the app, and that I would be receiving criticism like that constantly in this field, was something I knew I would need to get used to and be okay with.
Takeaways:
⚙️ Process
Learning the process of creating an app starting at ideating and going all the way to hi-fi prototype was a fun experience. There’s a lot more that goes into the creation of an app than I initiatly expected, and there’s still more that I will continue to learn about.
🔄 Reiterating
This was probably the best example of iterations for me, seeing that I went back and redid my entire project to make it not only better looking, but also applying new ideas that I learned about and listening to new user feedback. Apps go through multiple iterations before the final product is approved and ready for the public, and this was a good example of that for me.
Moving Forward:
Hypothetically, the next steps would be to conduct another usability study and determine how accurate the tracking is for delivery. It would be important to ensure that customers have correct delivery times, therefore it would need to be tested multiple times to confirm if it needs to be improved or if it’s sufficient.
